The MSU-Northern Rodeo teams kicked off their spring season this past weekend with their Extreme Bares and Broncs fundraiser at the Bigger Better Barn.
Head Coach Doug Kallenberger says this event was a massive success, and the influx of funds will be of huge benefit to the program.
“That’s kind of our plan for scholarships and travel and practice and everything else. And our rodeo booster club put this together for us and they went above and beyond. And it’s just huge for our team going forward, the quality of recruiting and scholarships. So we’re super excited. Couldn’t be happier.”
Kallenberger says his teams are motivated and have big goals in mind.
“I’d probably put about five guys in there that have a legit chance to make the CNFR, the individual, probably not as a team, but individually. Our main focus in those guys’ events is staying focused, keeping those guys focused and individually getting it done. I think for the women’s side, we’ve got the same thing happening. You’ve gotta focus up on the individual event but the women’s team is sitting second, so they’re poised to send their first team to the CNFR, so we’re really excited about that.”
The competition heats up for Northern later this week as they head down to Bozeman for the Montana State University Spring Rodeo, and Kallenberger says they can’t wait to take part in a loaded field.
“It’s in Brick Breeden fieldhouse. It’ll be the first time back in the fieldhouse in three years with COVID, so that’s always a great show in Bozeman. And I think there’s performances Thursday, Friday and Saturday night, those all start at 7 PM. Then the last one is Sunday afternoon at 1 PM. But a great show, can’t wait to see our kids in the short round as they put on a good show for everyone.”
