Doubleheader action on Monday night inside the Armory Gym saw the MSU-Northern basketball teams split with future Frontier Conference opponent Dickinson State. The Skylights won, (76-58), while the Lights were dropped, (79-69).
For the Skylights (2-2), they trailed by seven at break and ended up storming into the second half on an (8-0) run in the third quarter and a (14-0) run to begin the fourth. 15 steals propelled Northern to the win. Taya Trottier came on strong in the second half with 13 points to finish with a team-high 17 for the game. Canzas HisBadHorse was the team’s second-leading scorer at 15, while Katelynn Forner recorded 10.
The Lights (1-4) held a two-point lead against the Blue Hawks, but were blitzed by 11 points in the second half in scoring. Dickinson State finished shooting 53.7 percent from the floor and were physical down low with a plus-eight rebounding margin and plus-nine defensively. Cinque Maxwell finished with a team-high 16 points and Leon Sayers IV had 15. Raefe McEnroe had six field goals to finish with 14 points.
The Skylights will have a short week and take on Embry-Riddle on Friday, while the Lights do not play again until Nov. 29 against Valley City State in Dickinson before rematching with the Blue Hawks on Nov. 30.
