Havre, MT – Two games into the season, Montana State University-Northern football will be forced to challenge its depth at quarterback.
MSU-Northern Lights football is coming off a loss in Dillon to Montana Western. In the game, Northerns first year starter at quarterback, Ashton Platt, went down with an injury.
Kendall O’Neil, who was named as Platts back up at the start of the season recorded two completions on eight passing attempts for 5 total yards in Platt’s absence.
Northern offensive coordinator Dave Sandau said that Platt is “keeping good spirits” but won’t be ready for this Saturday’s game against No.13 Dickinson State.
Coach Sandau explained what the quarterback battle looks like and who is taking first team snaps in practice but is unsure who will start against the Bluehawks.
“Looks like we will have one of the young guys go in this week. We have got half going to Maroni and half going to Kendal O’Neil.” said Coach Sandau. ” one of those two will be the guy, it might be a mix of the two.”
Kendell O’Neil is a sophomore and native of Arlee Montana. O’Neill also played against Carroll College in the season opener. Ethan Maroni is a 5’10” freshman quarterback out of Winnipeg Cannada and St. Paul’s High School.
