Northstars Baseball Entering Home Stretch of Season

(NMB) The Havre Northstars American Legion Baseball Team is entering the final couple weeks of their regular season. Currently Havre is 30-15 and 1 overall and 20 and 2 in North District Conference play. They have played pretty consistent baseball all spring and summer and head coach Patch Wirtzberger says a lot of that is the leadership from the Seniors.

I would say it’s leadership. We’ve got a lot of really good seniors and a couple of super seniors on this team that can right the Kshipa when things go wrong. So, our losing streaks don’t tend to last very long which is good. Those seniors have been big for us and hopefully will continue to be.”-Wirtzberger

Havre is coming off a big stretch of six straight conference games where they went 4 and 2 and have won 14 of their last 16 games.

They’ll get a break from conference play this weekend as they travel to Glendive for a tournament Friday through Sunday. Coach Wirtzberger says this weekend will give them a chance to tinker with the line up a bit and a chance to see some different teams.

This weekend, I’d really like to see if there’s something we can do with the line-up to get things moving in the right direction to get us scoring some more runs because I think that’s going to be key down the stretch. So, maybe there’s some things we can tinker with there. I’m looking forward to that, and we’re looking forward to seeing a couple different teams. We’ve been on a big stretch of conference games and that is stressful and it stretches your pitching staff. It’ll be fun to get down there and play some baseball.”-Wirtzberger

After the Glendive tournament, Havre has six conference games remaining 2 on the road and 4 at home. The North District Tournament is July 20th through the 23rd in Vauxhall, The State Tournament is July 27th through the 31st in Laurel and Havre will host the Northwest Regional Tournament at Legion Field August 4th through the 8th.
