Northstars Finish First in District Play.

Havre, MT- The Havre Northstars ended their regular season over the weekend with a sweep of Fort Mcleod and two losses to the Medicine Hat Knights.

Even with a bitter end in the last two games Havre still finished the season 35-14-1 and secured the number one seed in the district tournament with a record of 26-6.

The Northstars locked up first place on Saturday against Fort Mcleod. Sunday Head Coach Ryan Divish saw an opportunity to give minutes to his younger players but still knew they had a chance to win.

“We were really beat up and we already locked up first place so I wanted to get those young kids the opportunity to play” said Divish, “but at the same time we were still playing to win, and I felt like we could have won both games.”

The district tournament in Lewistown is this Wednesday through Sunday. Despite the number one seed, Havre has to win the tournament to go the state tournament because in conference foe, Tri-County, hosts the state tournament giving them an automatic bid.

The Northstars look to win four games in four days and will start it off at 2p.m. on Thursday against the winner of the Great Falls chargers and Lethbridge Lakers.
