Northstars In Win Column to Close Out Latest Tourney

The Havre Northstars cruised to a victory on Sunday to close out the 2024 GVO Memorial Tournament in Three Forks. The rivalry game with the Lewistown Redbirds resulted in a (12-2) 5-inning victory.

Havre got things going in the second inning, putting up a four-spot thanks to some critical Lewistown errors. The Northstars scored uniquely on a fielder’s choice, a single, a passed ball, and a sacrifice fly.

The third inning was filled with lots of action on the base paths from both teams. Second baseman Tyson Brandon lined an RBI double in the third inning, which scored three runs to make it (7-1). Chason Mader ended up loading the bases in the bottom of the inning, allowing the last Redbirds run to come through in the game. However, he ended up striking out the final two batters of the inning to limit any more damage.

Designated hitter Terek Shipp reached base to begin the fourth inning on a dropped third strike. He proceeded to steal second and reach third on another Lewistown passed ball. Shipp scored one batter later as catcher Logan Kinsella extended the Northstars lead with an RBI single. Havre went on to cross the plate three more times throughout the contest. Mader went the distance and struck out five Redbirds. Brandon, Shipp, and Grady Haney were multi-RBI batsmen on the day.

The Northstars closed out the five games with a (2-3) mark down south. Havre (9-7) will return home to practice before hitting the road again for the Harold Gjerde Memorial in Lewistown later this week.
