Northstars Lose Doubleheader at Vauxhall

The Havre Northstars traveled to Canada for the first time this season and played road games against the Vauxhall Spurs. In a doubleheader, the Northstars dropped both gamed, (12-2) in six innings and (10-7), respectively.

Game one was a Vauxhall offensive game. The Spurs put up two runs in the first and a six-spot in the third inning. Havre came back with two runs in the fourth inning with Quinn Elliot doubling in Connor Essert and then scoring himself three batters later on an Asher Sawdy RBI two-bagger. Vauxhall’s lineup was too much in the end, securing as many hits as runs batted in with 11. The Spurs also got on base nine times via the walk.

In game two, it was more of the same for the home team early on. The Northstars did take the lead for the first time in the series to start the game, scoring on a Spurs error. However, Vauxhall came roaring back, crossing the plate nine times in the bottom half of the inning. Tanner Delarosa was able to overcome his tough start by striking out nine batters overall.

Trading zeroes, Havre did make some noise in the fifth, getting a Logan Kinsella triple to score Chason Mader and then seeing him come home with the next batter in the box on a wild pitch. They made the rest of the inning interesting by loading the bases with one out, but were unable to generate any more offense. The Northstars got back-to-back doubles in the sixth from Terek Shipp and Mader and two batters later saw another double by Elliot, capping off a four-run inning for the visitors. The Spurs were able to add an insurance run in the last of the sixth to put the game out of reach.

Havre closes out the weekend with an hour and a half bus ride to Fort Macleod to take on the Royals. First pitch is scheduled for 1pm on Sunday afternoon.
