Northstars Ready for State Tournament

The Havre Northstars are going to be playing in the Montana/Alberta American Legion State ‘A’ Tournament, which gets going in Laurel on Wednesday.

Havre is the No. 1 seed out of the North region after a triumphant district title victory on Sunday. New Media Broadcasters spoke with Northstars coach Patch Wirtzberger to recap the weekend that was.

Our pitching was solid for four days. That was something that stood out. Our defense was really good, we didn’t make a whole lot of mistakes out there and we executed a lot of things offensively that were big in big moments in the game. So, it was a very complete weekend of baseball from our guys.”-Wirtzberger

The Northstars must gear up for a test against the Billings Blue Jays, who beat them on May 14th by the final score of (10-4). When asked about the turnaround from winning a district tournament to going up against an opponent to open another tournament two days later, coach Wirtzberger said the team has had experience this season when taking on those unique challenges.

It’s challenging. We told the guys to enjoy what they’ve accomplished so far when we were finished, then we get back to work here on Monday and Tuesday practice and then get down to Laurel and play a game at four O’ clock on Wednesday. I guess the good thing is, that this schedule has prepared us for quick turn arounds because we’ve had them all season long. So, I expect that these guys will be ready.”-Wirtzberger
