The Havre Northstars finished their Canadian road trip on Wednesday night with a doubleheader in Medicine Hat against the Knights. The Northstars came back to win, (4-3) in the first contest and the Knights returned the favor with a (4-3) walkoff afterwards.
Game one was low scoring as Havre initially struggled to push across runs. After allowing two runners to come home in the second inning, the Northstars were able to swarm the base paths, but could only manage a Logan Kinsella RBI single. Medicine Hat got an insurance run in the fourth inning, but Havre stayed sharp and Tyson Brandon would deliver a two-run double to tie the game in the sixth inning. In dramatic fashion, Havre got the go-ahead run batted in from Tanner Delarosa, who singled in Kinsella. Colter Solomon pitched a great game, going the distance and doing enough to keep the opponent from scoring from the middle of the game on.
In game two, it was was again a battle on the mound. Havre got the party started with an RBI single by Terek Shipp in the first inning. Teegan Solomon picked up the same result in the second inning. The Knights countered with a run in the bottom half of the frame and then took the lead in the fourth inning with two more runners crossing home plate. Just like in the first game, the Northstars were able to battle back and tie the game up, this time down to their final out as Shipp got a double to score Brandon. Havre couldn’t hold onto the lead as Medicine Hat was able to walk it off in the bottom half of the inning to win the game on an error.
The (16-13) Northstars will return home for the first time since the Havre Jamboree and play two doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday versus Lethbridge and Fort Macleod, respectively.
