The Havre Northstars went back to their winning ways on Sunday, beating the Fort Macleod Royals in a doubleheader. The scores were (7-0) and (18-4) in six innings, respectively.
Game one was a dominating performance by the visitors on all fronts. Terek Shipp fired a three-hit shutout on the mound, striking out eight Royals in the process. He also brought home two runs and had three of the eight Northstars walks in the game. After leading (1-0) for the majority of the contest, Havre got a bases-loaded walk to score another run.
Then, 10 batters were sent to the plate in the seventh inning and scoring plays were all singles to put the game away for good. First baseman Tommy Lewis led the hitting, picking up three base knocks in as many at-bats. Other stats the coaching staff would be happy with coming away from the first contest would be only allowing Fort Macleod to get on base eight times throughout and also committing no errors.
After not scoring to start game two, Havre went off for runs in every other inning with the capper being a six-run sixth inning. The patience continued at the plate as the Northstars drew 13 walks and collected 18 total hits. Second baseman Tyson Brandon highlighted the play with four RBIs, which included smacking a triple. Shortstop Ezra Pyle also drove home three runs. Chason Mader and Teegan Solomon kept the Royals hitters at bay, combining to strike out nine batters on the day.
The (15-12) Northstars will have one more Canadian team to play on the road as they’ll travel to Medicine Hats to take on the Knights on Wednesday and then finally go home later this weekend for games against the Lethbridge Miners and rematch with the Fort Macleod Royals.
