HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – Numerous noxious weeds have been spotted in Hill County this summer, and some have harmed livestock.
Hill County Weed and Mosquito District Coordinator Terry Turner says either water hemlock or poison hemlock is believed to have recently caused the deaths of around a half dozen cows between Havre and Chinook.
Another problem plant spotted in the area is the black henbane. This poisonous plant has brownish-yellow flowers with a purple center and has been recently spotted in hay transported from the Highwood Mountains.
Turner recommends people always wear long-pants when dealing with weeds and to check areas for noxious weeds before letting livestock graze.
