Officer Involved Shooting On Fort Belknap Indian Reservation

On Saturday morning there was a shooting on the Fort Belknap Indian Reservation that resulted in a fatality.According to press release from the Fort Belknap Indian Community the incident began when a Fort Belknap officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle in the Hays area. The vehicle did not stop resulting in a pursuit. When the pursuit ended it is alleged that the suspect was reported to be uncooperative and exhibited a weapon, resulting in the officer fatally shooting the victim. The Ft. Belknap Officer immediately requested medical services. The investigation is ongoing with the FBI leading the investigation and the Fort Belknap Indian Community Law Enforcement assisting. According to Sandra Barker spokesperson from the FBI, she confirmed that the officer was not injured in the shooting. On Tuesday afternoon the Blaine County Sheriff/Coroner’s office released the identity of the man who was killed. Clayburn Elwood Grant 34. The cause of death was at 12:19AM when medial efforts had been exhausted. The cause of death was from a single gunshot wound to the chest.
