HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – A petition for Walleye Fish stocking in Fresno Reservoir hopes to draw more people to Hill County.
Fresno Chapter President of Walleye’s Unlimited, Nate Molestad, says the reservoir has not been stocked with Walleyes since 2011 and is essentially a natural fishery. Molstad believes the petition will help bring needed awareness to an issue he believes is being overlooked.
“There’s been nearly 172 million Walleyes that have been stocked in the area since 2012. Fresno hasn’t received any. You know, last year there was 47,000 Perks that were stocked in the area from the Miles City Fish Hatchery and Fresno wasn’t the recipient of any of those.”
Molestad says passing this petition would benefit the reservoir, the economy and communities in Hill County.
“Fresno was pretty good fishing here a number of years ago and it seems like it’s kinda been on a steady decline and so were hoping to reverse that. So, we just think there is an opportunity here to do something and hopefully this petition can maybe bring about some change.”
Petitions are available at Stromberg Sinclair, Bing n Bob’s Sport Shop, Red’s Auto-Electric and FresnoWalleyes.com.
