Phillips County to enter Stage 1 fire restrictions beginning Friday.

Due to current hot and dry weather conditions, Phillips County will be put into Stage 1 fire restrictions as of Friday, August 2.

These restrictions will affect all state, private, US Army Corps of Engineers, Bureau of Reclamation, and Bureau of Land Management lands in Phillips County, with the exception of the Upper Missouri River Breaks National Monument.

Building, maintaining, attending or use of campfires or fires are prohibited except in established metal or concrete fire rings within a developed campsite or recreation area.

Smoking is prohibited unless in an enclosed vehicle, building, developed recreation site or a 3-foot diameter area cleared of all flammable vegetation and material.

Exemptions

  • Persons with written permit specifically authorizing prohibited acts.
  • Persons using a device solely fueled by liquid petroleum or LPG fuels that may be turned on and off. Must be used in areas that are barren or cleared of all overhead and surrounding flammable materials within 3 feet of the device.
  • Persons conducting activities in designated areas where the activity is specifically authorized by written posted notice.
  • Any Federal, State, or local officer or member of an organized rescue/firefighting force in performance of official duties.
  • Unique exemptions for agencies and tribes.
