Pioneer Football Looking to Make Deep 6 Man Playoff Run

(NMB) The Big Sandy Pioneers football team has made deep 6 man playoff runs the last few years and are chasing that State Title again this year. The Pioneers are currently sitting at 6 and 0 this year and Head Coach Larry Jappe says last season’s run to the semi finals has given this year’s squad some confidence. “It took two or three games for them to realize, hey, we’re pretty good and by the time playoffs come around, they actually started taking it serious and believing in themselves. Plus we had a rash of injuries and things like that last season. It wasn’t until the quarter-finals and semi-finals where I actually got to put the same six kids on the field two weeks in a row.”

This year’s team spent a lot of time together, and according to Jappe it has helped in building this years version of the Pioneers. “They’ve just been working hard, they’ve been working out together, they’ve lifted weights together in the off season. We lost to the eventual State Champion by 4 points last year and then returned everybody and they kind of got a taste of that and they really want a State Championship of their own this year.”

The Pioneers will try and keep the momentum going this Friday Night as they host the Box Elder Bears.
