Ponies Volleyball Heading back to “Blocktoberfest” This Week

The Havre volleyball teams had another whirlwind week. C-Squad won its two matches, downing Fergus and Sidney, while JV and Varsity lost to Fergus but got straight sets victories over Sidney. New Media Broadcasters broke it all down with Ponies coach Cassie Krueger and she said her teams are on a good trajectory right now.

“JV and C-Squad are still particularly climbing and they’re doing fantastic getting their teamwork under wraps and making their fundamentals even better day by day,” Krueger said. “Varsity had been doing amazing.”

“It was a really hard loss against Fergus, but they bounced right back and took Sidney in three (sets),” Krueger continued. “I was very proud of them for bouncing back so quickly.”

Pony volleyball will now be on the road in Butte to participate in a two-day tournament known as “Blocktoberfest”. Friday’s opening matches will have no margin for error with one set against each team to 30 points. Krueger has high expectations for her team given that after Friday’s matches last season, they were positioned in the gold bracket for the tournament and that’s what she wants this year’s squad to achieve.

“It’ll be very good to test our mental toughness and go through a very hard day of eight matches on Friday,” Krueger said. “Then, depending on how we play, we will end up in (either) a gold, silver, or bronze bracket.”

“Last year, we ended up in gold, so that’s our goal this year as well,” Krueger continued. “Our main focus is going to be executing in the first set.”

“It’s going to be all about digging down deep, starting strong, and staying strong against these good teams,” Krueger said.
