Ponies Win Home Opener of Season 117

Havre, MT – The lights were bright Friday night at Blue Pony Stadium when Havre pulled away for a 34-20 victory over the Custer County Cowboys.

The first quarter looked bleak for Ponies after giving up back to back touchdowns on the Cowboys first two Drives. The ponies would score on a 43 yard touchdown run from sophomore running back Oliver nelson to enter the first quarter trailing 14-7

In the second The Blue Ponies outscored Custer County 13-8. Havre would score on a one yard rushing touchdown from senior quarterback Griffin Terry. The ponies defense didn’t allow a touchdown in the last three quarters but special teams gave up a 84 yard kick return for a touchdown by Jake Phalen. Havre would score one more time before halftime on a 57 yard touchdown pass from Griffin Terry to junior wide receiver Grady Haney.

With the ball game tied at 20 after half number one, the Ponies stepped it up and outscored the Cowboys 14-0 in the second half. In the third quarter Oliver Nelson would find the endzone for a second time a 24 yard run. In the fourth Havre continued to lean on their offensive line with their fourth rushing touchdown from Senior runningback Teague Manuel from 10 yards out.

The Blue Ponies are on a bye next week but will host Browning in two weeks on September 26. Kickoff from Blue Pony stadium will be at 7p.m. and you can listen on your home of the Blue Ponies, KOJM.
