The Havre girls’ basketball team has gone through the season nearly unscathed. Head coach Tommy Brown said what he liked about his team’s efforts from wins this past weekend against Fergus and Sidney.
“Every kid that hopped in just got absolutely after it,” Brown said. “We played really aggressive. That’s always really nice to see (and) not letting off when you’ve got a little bit of the lead.”
“(We accepted) playing hard, no matter what the situation of the game was,” Brown continued.
“Some things we maybe need to clean up is on the offensive side of the ball,” Brown said. “More so when we were not getting out and getting easy ones in transition.”
Lady Pony basketball will have a gauntlet this week as a top-tier Miles City team is in Havre at the Corral followed by the No. 1 team in the state in undefeated Billings Central Catholic. Brown is looking forward to seeing what his team is made of ahead of these daunting challenges.
“It’s very much going to simulate what a tournament week might look like for us,” Brown said. “It’ll be a tough test for us.”
“I’ll be happy to see what we do well and where we need to get better against two very good teams,” Brown continued.
“I know the girls are excited and focused in practice and willing to work hard,” Brown said. “They know we have two big ones ahead of us and are ready to rock and roll.”
Havre (11-1, 4-0) is home to both Miles City (7-3, 2-1) and Billings Central Catholic in girls’ basketball this week. The matchup with the Cowgirls begins around 5:30pm on Friday night, while Saturday’s Rams singleheader is at 4pm. Both games will be called by Kyle Leeds on KOJM-610AM, 98.3FM, and HiLineToday.com.
