Potential Human Remains Found in Mineral County

MINERAL COUNTY, Mont. (NMB) – The Mineral County Sheriff’s Office says that possible human remains have been found near a rest area off Interstate 90.

The remains were discovered on Wednesday, and the Sheriff’s Office believes this could be connected to a missing person case from 2017, in which two young adults went missing from the rest area where their vehicle was found. This is a heavily wooded area which has made the search extremely difficult.

The remains were found by people picking huckleberries, who found some bones scattered up and above the rest area. State DCI was called and they assisted in the recovery of what remains could be found.

Family’s of the missing persons were notified on Thursday of what was found and that DNA test will be done at the Montana Crime Lab. This could take 2-5 months to get any results back.
