Preparation for 2nd Bear Paw Marathon in Final Stretch

HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – The 2nd annual Bear Paw Marathon is less than two weeks away, and preparations are reaching the home stretch.

Havre Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Jessica Fagerbakke says they are continuing to look for volunteers, and those who are interested in helping out should attend the volunteer meeting, set for Tuesday, May 31st at 6 PM in the Holiday Village Mall.

“If anyone wants to help volunteer with setup or the day of the event. Set up will be on the third … We are looking for volunteers for assistance with packet pickup, runners can pick up their packets at the Holiday Village Mall on June 3rd from noon-9 PM. And then we’re also looking for help with set up on the third, just getting all of the mile markers and all of that set up for the race. And then the morning of the race is a really early morning, we go out and set out all the plywood and make sure all things are set. And then we’ll need help with setting up the finish line and tear down after the event is over and all the festivities have wrapped up on the 4th.”

Fagerbakke says registration numbers are up from last year, with 239 participants signed up, including 35 for the full marathon.

“We had 27 (in the marathon) last year. We have 84 for the half marathon and 107 for the 5k, registration is still open for that,” Fagerbakke said on Friday. “And we have 13 for the Bear Paw Pub Crawl, so we are looking for more participants to sign up for all the events. Registration is open until the morning of the event.

The Marathon will begin at 6 AM at Beaver Creek Park on Saturday, June 4th and will conclude on the campus of MSU-Northern. There will also be a half-marathon, a 5k, and a pub crawl.
