Public Meeting Set to Discuss Fire Code Issues at Fairgrounds

HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – A public meeting has been scheduled for 2 PM this Wednesday at the Chuckwagon at the Great Northern Fairgrounds to discuss issues with fire code as it relates to buildings at the Fairgrounds.

Commissioner Mark Peterson says that due to the recently signed agreement between Havre and Rural Fire 1, fire codes are going to have to be enforced at buildings at the Fairgrounds in a way they have not previously.

He says this could impact numerous events.

“This is going to effect every rodeo, every fundraiser that goes on up there, weddings, whatever else is going on in the Chuckwagon,” Peterson said Friday. “This is farther reaching than just this moment in time that we’re working on.”

Peterson says a virtual option for the meeting will be available.

Acting State Fire Marshal Dirk Johnson has been invited, and says he plans on attending.

According to emails and statements, Johnson toured the Fairgrounds at the request of Fair Manager Frank English. He detailed numerous issues with buildings at the Fairgrounds, as well as at the outdoor beer gardens.
