HELENA, Mont. (NMB) – The Montana Department of Revenue says over $1.5 million in recreational marijuana sales was reported over the first weekend of 2022.
The state is taxing the revenue at 20 percent, meaning they raked in over $310,000.
Medical marijuana saw over $440,000 in sales, and since it is taxed at four percent, the state brought in over $17,000 in taxes.
Recreational marijuana became legal in Montana on January 1st following a successful ballot initiative in 2020. It can only be sold in counties that voted in favor of the measure.
