ROCKY BOY, Mont. (NMB) – Despite canceling a public hearing for Thursday, July 16th, out of concern for the health of the community, the Chippewa Cree Tribal Election Board still plans on holding a referendum election on July 30th.
The election will take place from 8 AM to 8 PM at the Old Stone College Parking Lot. The Board is researching options on how to best conduct the referendum.
Voters will decide on whether to approve two amendments to the Chippewa Cree Election Ordinance.
The first allows the Tribe to deviate from standard election procedure during a declared emergency in order to make sure they protect the health of the community. They will not be allowed to deviate from procedures outlined in Tribal Constitution and Bylaws.
The second amendment increases the filing fee from $100 to $250 for the Business Committee, and from $150 to $500 for Chairmanship of Business Committee.
The Election Board will continue to receive public comment until July 22nd. Comments can be emailed to CCTEB20@yahoo.com or mailed to 96 Clinic Road North, Box Elder Montana, 59521.
