(Helena) – Montana has created a rural health transformation plan that has received Federal Funding. The Montana Department of Labor and Industry is charged with developing the workforce development part of this plan. DLI has created three sub sections in workforce development. DLI Commissioner Sarah Swanson explains what the second sub initiative will be examining.
“To enhance rural clinical training in Montana. Whether that’s expanding slots in existing residency programs or developing and expanding training tracks for rural providers. It might include preceptor and apprentice mentor training and support, and it could potentially include feasibility analysis on whether Montana needs new residency or fellowship programs to support providers in Montana.”
A rural health transformation plan explains:
- What health problems rural communities face today
- Why the current healthcare system is struggling
- What changes are needed to fix those problems
- How those changes will be implemented over time
Its goal is to ensure people in rural areas can get the care they need, when and where they need it, while keeping rural hospitals and clinics financially viable.
