ROCKY BOY, Mont. (NMB) – The Rocky Boy Sustainability Program has announced that Chippewa Cree Tribal Grant Writer Javon Wing wrote and was awarded a $24,500 grant from the Montana HealthCare Foundation.
The grant will help the Chippewa Cree Tribe write and pass food handling codes, allowing the Tribe to grow foods for distribution on a commercial level, which is described as a big step towards food sovereignty and Tribal Sustainability.
In related news, Food Sovereignty Coordinator William Lodgepole recently worked with Curtis Monteau of Stone Child College as well as volunteers to plant potatoes at their community garden. Come harvest time, this should yield approximately 4,000 pounds of potatoes.
