Montana senator Jon Tester held a listening session on Thursday at MSUN regarding the farm bill. He heard from various leaders representing different areas in the agricultural industry. Members of the audience were also offered time to give input.
Senator tester tells his main take aways from the session.
“I think crop insurance is really important. That safety net program has to be there. We need to expand to take in some of the other crops that weren’t accounted for when the bill was passed in 2018. I think the other issue we talked about was reference price which needs to be bumped up too because of inflation and the increased cost of production. One of the interesting things that came up here that really came up quite a bit was employees that work for the FSA and conservation, making sure that the wages are compatible so that we can get good people, because staffing tends to be a real problem, and there was a whole bunch of other stuff that came up too but those were three of the big ones.”– Jon Tester
