The MSU-Northern Skylights basketball team scored an upset victory to close out their home schedule when they beat Rocky Mountain College over the weekend. The shooting was an improvement and that was highlighted during the postgame interview with head coach Chris Mouat.
“I’m fortunate to have a great assistant coach and kids who are pretty smart,” Mouat said. “I’m proud of them, especially (putting up) the (three-pointers) down the stretch. McKenzie Long had two big ones. Dulci (SkunkCap had) a big one.”
“The game is on the line and you’re trying to close them out or just get a little breathing room,” Mouat continued. “We were fortunate to get some stops on the other end and so you’re getting three’s like that and it does help. Big win for us.”
The enjoyment will turn to preparation as the Skylights close the regular season out on the road when they head to the only two ranked teams in the Frontier Conference in Providence and Carroll. Coach Mouat reflected on the last time those two teams were road opponents and said rest will be key in making sure the team is on top of their game starting Thursday.
“The las time we played at Providence, I thought we played pretty well,” Mouat said. “At Carroll, we played three good quarters and so we’ll see.”
“Tall challenges, a lot to get prepped for (and) a lot of things to think about and gameplan,” Mouat continued. “Get a little rest. The Frontier Conference season is so long. NAIA basketball is so long.”
Stay tuned later this week for more in-depth conversation on MSU-Northern’s next two opponents
