At this juncture, MSU-Northern Skylights basketball is two wins away from achieving its total victories from all of 2023-24. The most recent two triumphs came against Canadian teams earlier this week. New Media Broadcasters spoke with head coach Chris Mouat to get his thoughts on how the games unfolded.
“I thought it was 50/50,” Mouat said. “I thought our first game (against King’s University), we were okay.”
“The second game (against Keyano College), we just struggled,” Mouat continued. “We were stuck in mud the whole day. We didn’t execute very well. Fortunately, we were able to build a nice lead, but at the same time, you want to take that lead and increase it if you have the opportunity to do it.”
“I thought we let them hang around a little too long,” Mouat said. “But credit them. Keyano played really hard and messed us up a little bit. We’ve got some things we have to work on for a big conference opener.”
It is conference games the rest of the way for the Skylights, playing host to Montana Western to start the slate. Mouat gave the listeners a preview of the Lady Bulldogs team and said what his team will need to do to earn another ‘W’.
“Really quick (and) really aggressive. Not a ton of size,” Mouat said. “But they execute extremely well and they play super hard.”
“A team you can’t leave it hanging. They’re going to strip the ball from you,” Mouat continued. “(You) just have to be strong. You have to be sharp at what you do.”
“They’re going to be coming at you and they come at you for 40 minutes with pressure,” Mouat said.
