Skylights Basketball Seasons Over in Great Falls

The MSU-Northern Skylights basketball team took the floor on Thursday in opening round action at the 2024 Frontier Conference Tournament and faced Rocky Mountain College. The Lady Bears ended up coming away with an (86-81) and eliminating Northern from the tournament and ending the Skylights’ season.

MSU-N maintained a (39-36) halftime lead, but were outscored by four points in each of the final two quarters. Northern couldn’t stop the presence of Morgan Baird, who scored a team-high 26 points on 11-for-16 from the field. She was one of five Lady Bears in double-figures along with Ky Oliver’s 17, Gracee Lekvold’s 16, Brenna Linse’s 14, and Iliana Moran’s 10. Oliver also had 10 rebounds to get a double-double.

For Northern, in her final game, senior forward Ryley Kehr scored a career-high 32 points on 12-of-17 shooting, while sophomore guard Taya Trottier also put in her best effort as a Skylight, dropping 22 points. Redshirt junior forward Savannah Toms was the third MSU-N player in double-figures with 12 points.

The Skylights finished the 2023-24 season with an (11-18) overall mark and improved their overall win total by three from a season ago and got four more Frontier Conference victories compared to last season.
