Skylights Building Confidence

Havre, MT – MSU-Northern Skylights basketball has started the season 3-2 and are receiving votes in the latest NAIA national poll.

The skylights are off to a 2-1 start in conference play with wins on the road at Providence and at Bellevue. The Skylights lone loss was to fourth ranked Dakota State University.

Despite the Trojans of Dakota State blowing out opponents left and right, the skylights entered the fourth quarter only trailing by five. Dakota State pulled away to win by 18 over the Skylights but head coach Chris Mouat saw a few things he liked about his team’s performance.

“We really did a good job of handling the tempo of the game, because I think Dakota State going into this one, they scored 107 points, and they scored 98 points. So, if we wanted to make it a fast passed up and down hectic game that’s what they want, and so we had to be really structured really disciplined and I thought our kids did a great job of that.”

Mouat believes that game should give his players confidence moving forward.

“I think it should give them confidence too. They know that if they play hard for 40 minutes and fairly mistake free they can beat anybody.”

The Skylights are looking to bounce back against Stephens College on Saturday, November 29. Tipoff is at 5p.m. from Armory Gym and you can listen to live play-by-play action on KPQX.
