MSU-Northern volleyball recorded yet another split in Frontier Conference play this past week, getting swept on the road to a ranked Providence squad before bouncing back to down Rocky at home in four sets. New Media Broadcasters caught up with head coach Jerry Wagner and he gave his thoughts on how his team is still contending, whether it’s win or lose.
“There were situations (for the Providence match) in both the first and second set that (were) one or two plays away from having an opposite result,” Wagner said. “We took away from that that we still have work to do and we still have the ability (and) the personnel to accomplish that.”
“Against Rocky was very rewarding,” Wagner continued. “Very excited about the energy and the effort and the attitude put forth.”
This week’s slate against Montana Tech and Carroll College will have a number of storylines. Each match will be at home, plus the Saturday tilt with the Saints will also be senior day. Wagner had a ton of enthusiasm when discussing the stretch of matches for his club.
“Well, it feels very good,” Wagner said. “Saturday was the start of a four-game home stretch for us.”
“We’re sleeping here. We’re able to prepare without a long trip,” Wagner continued. “We’ve been handling that situation very well.”
“We’re (1-1) with Tech,” Wagner said. “That’s our focus right now, but it’ll be nice to be here. It’ll be nice to celebrate the seniors on Saturday of course. (I’m) excited about the home stretch here.”
The Armory Gym will be busy this week, hosting volleyball matches on Thursday night at 7pm versus Montana Tech and then again on Saturday afternoon at 2pm against Carroll College.
