The MSU Northern basketball teams squared off against Dickinson State Saturday evening, in day two of the Sam Milanovich Classic in Dickinson, North Dakota.
The Skylights led the set off, and kept even with the Blue Hawks, tied at 14 after one. Northern kept pressing, to take a 33-27 lead to the locker room. Another close third session saw the Skylights lead by 9 into the final stanza. Dickinson State dug deep, but only managed to trim the lead to three, giving the Skylights a 61-58 victory.
Shyan Krass led the charge with 12 points, with Canzas HisBadHorse and Savannah Toms contributing 10 points each to the win. The Northern women are now 4-3 on the young season, and return to the Armory Gym on Saturday, December 7, to host Saint Mary’s University for a 1pm tip off.
The men’s game immediately followed, where the Blue Hawks opened with a 10-0 run. The LIghts battled back to within 4 with help from the bench, but Dickinson surged to close the half up 36-27. Fighting back in the second half, the Lights climbed to a 5 point deficit, before Dickinson hit some difficult shots toward the game’s end, and claiming the 73-66 win.
Northern’s scoring was headed up by Anthony Mendez with 14 points. Cinque (seen KWAY) Maxwell added 13, and Leon Sayers the fourth hit double digits with 11.
The LIghts sit at 1-6 this season, looking to turn things around on Friday, December 6, when they host the University of Jamestown. Gametime is set for 6pm.
