(Listening Area) The US Attorney’s Office of Jesse Laslovich announced that they recently came to a settlement with Saint Peter’s Health over misconduct involving the False Claims Act.
New Media Broadcasters spoke with Laslovich to get more info on what the False Claims Act is.
“So the False Claims Act prevents health care providers from submitting false claims to the federal government; so Medicare, Medicaid, other federal health care programs like Tricare, which are in fact false. It’s kind of a circuitous act, but one of it’s main purposes is to protect the American taxpayer from paying for claims that are not valid.”
The settlement was for the amount of nearly 11 million dollars which Laslovich say will be paid back to the federal government and benefit those using Medicare, Medicaid, and other federal health programs, especially those in rural areas like the Hi-Line.
