(Havre) With the Student and Teacher Advancement for Results and Success Act, or STARS Act as you may have heard it called, now signed into law by the Governor, qualifying Montana schools will have access to a pool of state funds to supplement the salary of their teachers.
New Media Broadcasters spoke with Superintendent of Havre Public Schools Brian Gum, who says that the district wants to ensure that salary changes recognize all their teachers, new and old.
“We do qualify for the STARS act, we navigated that process in negotiations with the HEA, with the salary matrix that would show that you could not only give the new threshold, but then how do we also recognize our veteran teachers that have been here a long time. So, we tried to make sure that we could also make the matrix work out so that our veteran teachers also saw some benefit as well”
