State-Tribal Relations Committee to Visit Fort Belknap and Fort Peck

HELENA, Mont. (NMB) – The Montana Legislature’s State-Tribal Relations Committee will be making their way to the Hi-Line next week to meet with tribal government leaders and visit various sites.

On Wednesday, April 6th, they will be visiting the Fort Belknap Indian Community. According to the draft agenda, the Committee will spend the morning touring Island Mountain Development Group’s facility in Hays and the FBIC Buffalo Pasture.

In the afternoon, they will be meeting the the Fort Belknap Council and will then be conducting a business meeting.

On Thursday, April 7th, they will be visiting the Fort Peck Reservation.

In the morning, they will visit the Language and Culture Department and the Tribal Executive Board in Poplar.

In the afternoon, they will be touring the Thundering Buffalo Health and Wellness Center in Poplar.

On both days, they are expected to discuss the issue of satellite/alternative election offices and fee-to-trust or other land status issues.

This comes after the Committee visited the Rocky Boy’s Reservation last October.
