In the 2024 regular season finale on Friday night, the Chinook Sugarbeeters football team fell to the Fort Benton Longhorns, (56-30).
The Beeters came out with a statement after allowing Truman Giese to score a 42-yard touchdown on the second play of the game. Chinook marched right back and Landen Beck carried a 20-yarder into the end zone for his first action since week one and Ryan Bell found Jameson Nordboe for the 2-point conversion to make it (8-6).
On the next Fort Benton drive, the Longhorns marched down to the Chinook 5-yard line, but Giese was picked by Britt Powell and he took it back 79 yards to the house to make it (14-6). After a Giese touchdown to David Olson, Beck came right back and scored on a longer drive from two yards out.
Unfortunately for the Beeters, Fort Benton woke up, holding the offense to back-to-back turnovers on down in their own territory and scoring at will. From the 8:36 mark of the second quarter on, it was Fort Benton 42, Chinook 8.
Giese accounted for five touchdowns: three on the ground, one in the air, and a 62-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.
Chinook is now (6-3) and will be the No. 4 seed out of the north in the 8-man playoffs and will play on Saturday at 1pm on the road against a team from the west.
