Teenager Killed after Vehicle Strikes Tree

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Mont. (NMB) – The Montana Highway Patrol reports that a 17-year-old girl from Boulder was killed and another teenager was injured on Monday after the vehicle they were in exited an icy interstate and struck a tree in Jefferson County.

The crash occurred at 8:13 PM, when the 17-year-old was driving a Ford Escape southbound at mile marker 184 of I-15. The driver failed to negotiate a right-hand curve and lost control. The Escape entered a clockwise rotation and ran off the right side of the roadway, where it then struck a tree.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger, an 18-year-old female, also from Boulder, was transported to a local hospital.

Drugs, alcohol or excessive speed are all not suspected factors in the crash.
