POWDER RIVER COUNTY, Mont. (NMB) – A 64-year-old woman from Portland, Texas was killed in a single-vehicle crash in Powder River County on Thursday morning.
The Montana Highway Patrol reports that the crash occurred at 10:39 AM on US 212 at mile marker 93, when the front left tire on a westbound freightliner semi went flat, causing it to cross the center line and go off onto the left side of the roadway. The vehicle went into the south ditch and began to overturn.
The vehicle overturned on top of a barbed wire fence and came to rest on the passenger side facing south.
There were two occupants in the vehicle, both were wearing seatbelts. The passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, a 56-year-old man, also from Portland, Texas, was not injured.
The road was dry at the time of the crash. Alcohol, drugs or excessive speed are all not suspected factors.
