HELENA, Mont. – Lambda Legal, the American Civil Liberties Union, and the American Civil Liberties Union of Montana are announcing that they will take any necessary legal action against a proposed bill currently being considered by the state. Senate Bill 99 would ban affirmation based medical procedures and drugs for gender dysphoria for people under 18.
Lambda Legal, the American Civil Liberties Union, and the American Civil Liberties Union of Montana aren’t the only ones likely suing. There are reports of minors who were medically transitioned and have since sued their doctors and medical institutions for administering irreversible transition procedures.
Similar debates have been ongoing in the United Kingdom. Now the Gender Identity Development Service at the Tavistock and Portman Trust in London, a clinic that primarily serves children experiencing gender dysphoria is set to be shut down by the NHS, after reports and whistleblowers raised concerns.
Until 2019 when he resigned, Marcus Evans was the Clinical Director of Adult and Adolescent Services at the Tavistock he told the NY Post, “I saw children being fast-tracked onto medical solutions for psychological problems, and when kids get on the medical conveyor belt, they don’t get off, But the politicization of the issue was shutting down proper clinical rigor. That meant quite vulnerable kids were in danger of being put on a medical path for treatment that they may well regret.”
Lambda Legal, the American Civil Liberties Union, and the American Civil Liberties Union of Montana issued the following joint statement regarding the Montana bill:
“Gender-affirming care is a critical part of helping transgender adolescents succeed in school, establish healthy relationships with their friends and family, live authentically as themselves, and dream about their futures. If this bill is signed into law, we will defend the rights of transgender youth in court, just as we have done in other states engaging in this anti-science and discriminatory fear-mongering.”
