HILL COUNTY (NMB) On Wednesday afternoon the Chippewa Cree Tribal Resources Department Facebook page at around 3PM reported a wildland fire in the Eagle Creek area on the Beaver Creek side of the mountains.
Initial reports stated the the fire was in the Baldy Mountains south of the Ski Bowl area fueled by wind and dry conditions.
By 5PM emergency agencies were gathering on the scene and the public was advised to stay out of the area and only emergency personnel were allowed access to Beaver Creek Park south of 2nd Lake
By 6PM Hill County Emergency Service Coordinator and Fire Marshall Amanda Frickel gave New Media Broadcasters the update that DNRC with mobile and air supports along with local agencies were on the scene. No injuries were reported.
At 3:49AM Thursday Frickel released an update that BIA Forestry, Bear Paw Fire Department Wildhorse Departments, DNRC, Rocky Boy’s police, Hill County Sheriff, and BLM were battling the blaze. At 5PM Thursday Frickel officially declared 7,910 acres destroyed by the fire with 45% containment. One cabin has burned. There were no reported injuries.
The perimeter of the fire was located both on and off the Rocky Boy’s reservation.
Beaver Creek Park Superintendent Chad Edgar released a statement at 12:52PM Thursday:
“Effective immediately, September 8th, until further notice Beaver Creek Park south of Taylor Road will be closed to OVERNIGHT camping sue to the eagle Creek Fire Burning near Baldy Mountain”
Edgar added at anytime the fire changed direction remaining visitors to the park will be evacuated.
