Tied Race in Fort Belknap Delays Final Election Results

FORT BEKLNAP, Mont. (NMB) – A tied race for the River Assiniboine District Representative on the Fort Belknap Indian Community will have to go before their Council to decide whether to call the race, or order another recount. The Fort Belknap Election Office says that the seat will remain open until that decision is made. The rest of the newly-elected Council Members were sworn in Thursday morning.

The Election Committee has counted the ballots for that race at least five times, with a tie being calculated between Nathaniel Mount and Donald “Duck” Horn once. Each tally was completed by running ballots through an electronic tallying machine. The Committee could call a runoff election or declare a winner. No decision has been made.
