U.S. Attorney Urges People to Report COVID-19 Hoarding

HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – A U.S attorney urged the public to report any individual(s) that may be hoarding and up-charging needed COVID-19 supplies to officials.

The Executive Order, entitled Defense Production Act, allows The Justice Department’s COVID-19 Hoarding and Price Gouging Task Force to seize hoarded items from individuals who are stockpiling and reselling said product at a higher rate.

Alme said, “Hoarding critically needed medical supplies to get rich quick during a pandemic is not only morally reprehensible, it’s illegal. Stockpiling supplies and price gouging puts the health and safety of individuals at risk and hampers efforts to stop the spread of this deadly virus. It cannot and won’t be tolerated.”

Designated products that warrant seizure include masks, disinfectant, ventilators and the like.

This prohibition of excessively hoarding necessary COVID-19 items does not apply to citizens who are purchasing products based off of a business, a family or an individual need.

To report any COVID-19 hoarding, product up-charging or other fraudulent schemes call the Department of Justice 866-720-5721 or email disaster@leo.gov.
