USS Montana Commissioned

NORFOLK, Virginia (NMB) – The U.S. Navy Commissioned the USS Montana at a ceremony in Norfolk, Virginia on Saturday.

Montana Governor Greg Gianforte spoke at the Commissioning, thanking those who are serving our country. He recognized the volunteer USS Montana Committee for their role promoting education about the vessel and for providing financial support.

Construction on the Virginia-Class attack submarine began back in 2015.

The ceremonial bell aboard the vessel toured the state of Montana earlier this year with the head of the Committee, even making a stop in Havre.

The ship is expected to be based in Hawaii and be a part of the Navy’s pacific fleet. The warship will feature historical and cultural displays of Montana.
