FORT BENTON, Mont. (NMB) – Friends of the Missouri River Breaks Monument is seeking volunteers for a Missouri River cleanup on National Public Lands Day.
A press release says the event will start at 9 AM on Saturday, September 28th at the Chouteau County Fairgrounds canoe launch in Fort Benton and end by 5 PM at the Wood Bottom Recreation Area in the Upper Missouri River Breaks National Monument near Loma.
Volunteers will paddle 20 miles between Fort Benton and Wood Bottom, picking up articles of trash along the way. The last time the Friends hosted a river cleanup, many large items, like tires, were found on the riverbank.
Canoes, paddles, lifejackets, gloves, trash bags, and lunch will be provided for this event. A free barbeque dinner for volunteers will follow at Wood Bottom.
