Walk to Raise Awareness for MMIP Slated for Wednesday

ROCKY BOY, Mont. (NMB) – Local organizers have scheduled a walk through the Rocky Boy Reservation on Wednesday to raise awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Persons and discuss recent legislation regarding the issue.

The walk will begin on Laredo Road at the turnoff from US 87 and will continue for over eight miles, concluding with a Memorial Round Dance and Closing Ceremony at the Pow Wow Grounds.

Registration will take place at the start-up site between noon and 1 PM, followed by an opening ceremony and prayer. The walk is expected to begin at around 1:30 PM.

There will be several stops on the way to recognize the local impact of the issue, with speakers at each stop.

Transportation back to the starting site will be provided for participants after the closing ceremony. There will also be transportation between each stop along the route for elders.

The walk is intended to bring attention to the issue of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Children and Men along the Hi-Line.
