(Bozeman) – New World Screwworm has been found in cattle and domestic pets in New Mexico and Texas. Dr. Megan Van Emon Extension Beef Cattle Specialist with Montana State University explains what New World Screwworm is.
“It’s a naturally occuring fly species about the size of a housefly. The species is a, I’m probably going to blow through this but, Cochliomyia Hominivorax but also known as new world screwworm and it’s basically a blowfly that is native more to the sub-tropical region.”
New World Screwworm is extremely dangerous to livestock, wildlife, and domestic pets.
