HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – A transient woman is facing a pending felony theft of a motor vehicle charge on allegations of stealing a truck from a local furniture store.
Kathleen Jett, 30, was arrested on Friday morning and is currently in the Hill County Detention Center on $100,000 bond.
Havre Police Lieutenant Aaron Wittmer says they received a call from a Cut Bank gas station just after 6 AM on Friday after someone spotted a Valley Furniture truck. Wittmer says the caller found it suspicious, and spoke with the driver, who told the caller they were given permission to rent the truck and were headed to Spokane.
Authorities and the truck owners were contacted about the incident. The truck ended up coming to a stop near Valier after running out of gas. Wittmer says Pondera County Deputies located the vehicle at around 10 AM.
Jett was arrested and was eventually transported to the Hill County Detention Center. The vehicle was refueled and safely returned to Valley Furniture. A spokesperson with the company says the vehicle doesn’t appear to have suffered any damage.
It is unclear exactly how or when the vehicle was initially stolen.
Charges have been sent to the County Attorney for prosecution.
Wittmer says that this is not the first recent incident they have dealt with regarding Jett. He says she was recently charged with a misdemeanor regarding a stolen vehicle, but was released from the Detention Center.
