(Lincoln) – Two young adult grizzly bears were euthanized last week following a 10-day string of conflicts near homes in the Lincoln community. Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks officials report the bears repeatedly targeted unsecured grain, garbage, and chicken coops in and near the town.
FWP staff and residents attempted to secure attractants, but the bears remained in the area and exhibited increasingly bold behavior that raised serious human safety concerns.Wildlife officials trapped and euthanized the grizzlies early in consultation with the United States Fish and Wildlife Service.
State wildlife officials note that bear conflicts are up across Montana this season because natural food sources, like chokecherries, are limited. Residents are urged to secure potential attractants and immediately report any bear activity to FWP.
