WOLF POINT, Mont. (NMB) – The Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Office says that the man killed in an explosion on Wednesday has been identified as 34-year-old Payden Nygaard of Wolf Point.
Dispatch received a report of the explosion at around 4 PM on Wednesday at a farm five miles north of Wolf Point on Highway 250.
Emergency personnel responded and discovered an outbuilding had been destroyed when a large amount of leaking propane ignited inside the structure.
The resulting explosion caused nearby soil to collapse and fill the interior of the building, killing one adult male who was inside at the time.
Temperatures of approximately -25 degrees slowed recovery efforts, but the victim’s body was eventually recovered by the Wolf Point Volunteer Fire Department and several other agencies.
