HELENA, Mont. (NMB) – A 17-year old male from Helena was killed and three teenagers were injured in a single-vehicle crash near Helena on Sunday afternoon.
The Montana Highway Patrol reports that the crash occurred at 3 PM on Birdseye Road. The male was driving a Nissan Frontier westbound at a high rate of speed when it dropped off the right side of the road. The driver overcorrected and entered a side skid and tripped, causing it to overturn.
The Frontier came to rest 75 feet from the roadway.
The driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was declared dead at the scene. The three passengers, teenage females ages 15, 17, and 18, were wearing seatbelts. They were transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries.
Excessive speed is a suspected factor in the crash. The road was clear and dry.
